The United States has secured an agreement for a temporary ceasefire in the city of Oleshky, in Ukraine’s Kherson region, to allow humanitarian aid deliveries and the evacuation of civilians. The truce is expected to take effect on Thursday, October 29, according to the White House.
According to the TASS news agency, US First Lady Melania Trump helped secure the ceasefire agreement in the area around Oleshky.
The city is under Russian occupation and is facing a humanitarian crisis amid difficulties in obtaining food and other essential supplies.
The White House has not yet provided further details about the duration of the ceasefire or how it will be implemented. The agreement applies only to the Oleshky area and does not entail a ceasefire along the entire front line.
