Unauthorised access to the Central Electoral Commission’s systems allegedly occurred ahead of the 2025 elections, claims Victor Tataru, former head of the Cybersecurity Directorate at the Information Technology and Cybersecurity Service (STISC). According to him, those involved included both STISC employees and foreign nationals allegedly representing special services.
Tătaru has filed a complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organised Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS). The document states that he had previously informed officials within the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) about the circumstances. The former official also links the situation at the time to the cyberattacks of recent days, which resulted in data linked to approximately 750,000 people being accessed.
“As a result of my refusal to grant the requested access to foreign nationals who personally identified themselves as employees of special services (Annex No. 2), I personally informed the head of the counterintelligence subdivision within the SIS, using the telephone number 06997112, about the circumstances and facts described.
“Following this notification, I was subjected to measures that I consider retaliatory (Annexes Nos. 4, 5 and 6), which continued for approximately six months. Although the director assured me that these measures would cease (Annex No. 7), they continued afterwards as well, ultimately culminating in the termination of my employment,” Tataru wrote in his complaint.
The institutions concerned have not yet commented on Victor Tataru’s allegations. Realitatea’s editorial team has sent them requests for comment to obtain their positions on the matter.
