(LIVE) Realitatea launched “Loteanu’s Week in Moldova” in Chisinau

The cultural campaign “Loteanu’s Week in Moldova”, dedicated to the life and work of renowned director Emil Loteanu, was launched today, November 6, in Chisinau, on what would have been his 90th birthday. The launch event is taking place at Cineplex Loteanu and is organised by the Realitatea Media Group.

The launch ceremony was broadcast live on RLIVE.MD from Cineplex Loteanu.

Dumitru Țîra, founder of the Realitatea Media Group, spoke about the importance of bringing Emil Loteanu’s cultural legacy back into the public spotlight.

He also highlighted the role of the campaign in promoting the values and achievements of Moldovan cinema.

“First of all, today marks 90 years since the birth of Emil Loteanu, who is a great national figure. Our initiative was born, I believe, out of three motivations or three feelings.

“The first is pride, because Emil Loteanu made Moldova known throughout the world. The second is a sense of belonging, because he was Moldovan and shared the same homeland with us. And the third is a sense of responsibility on our part: to bring him home spiritually, to ensure that younger generations get to know him and discover his work,” Dumitru Tira said.

As part of the event, audiences have the opportunity to watch the documentary The Life of Loteanu, directed by Max T. Ciorba, as well as The Fiddlers, one of the filmmaker’s best-known works.

Max Ciorba, director of the documentary, spoke about the process of making the film and the importance of preserving the memory of the renowned filmmaker.

He stressed that Emil Loteanu is a fundamental figure in Moldovan cinema whose work deserves to be rediscovered by audiences.

“Loteanu is a pillar of Moldovan cinema that we need to see,” the director concluded.

The programme also includes the launch of an album-book dedicated to Emil Loteanu’s life and work, as well as the presentation of a commemorative coin.

The campaign will continue over the coming days with a series of television screenings. Realitatea TV will broadcast four of Emil Loteanu’s iconic films every evening at 9:00 p.m.: The Fiddlers, My Sweet and Tender Beast, The Gypsies Are Found Near Heaven, and Anna Pavlova.

Through this project, the Realitatea Media Group aims to bring Emil Loteanu’s artistic legacy back into the public spotlight and give younger generations the opportunity to discover the work of the director who brought Moldovan cinema to screens around the world.
