A minister’s salary of over half a million dollars

Vice Premier and Minister of Economy Eugeniu Osmochescu reported substantial income for 2025, with most of it coming from his previous work with the World Bank Group, according to his declaration of assets, reports bani.md.

The document shows that the largest portion of his income came from the salary and benefits provided by the International Finance Corporation, where he earned over $143,000. He also declared a pension of approximately $587,000 from the same institution, along with multiple allowances, including housing, family, and medical expenses.

In contrast, Osmochescu earned much less from public service in the Republic of Moldova. He declared a salary of roughly 50,000 lei for his work at the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization and about 27,000 lei from teaching activities.

Regarding financial assets, he reported over $840,000 in bank accounts, plus deposits in euros and Moldovan lei. He also holds shares in a consulting company in Chișinău.

For property, the minister declared multiple plots of land and real estate, including a residential house valued at around 3 million lei. In 2025, he purchased a Hyundai Tucson worth $40,000.

Osmochescu also reported additional income from interest, the sale of a car, and other travel-related reimbursements.
