Anti-corruption officers have detained four individuals for 72 hours in a case involving influence peddling and a €40,000 bribe. The money was handed over under the control of law enforcement authorities.

The detention took place in the Riscani district of Chișinău shortly after the transfer of the funds. According to case materials, the suspects had allegedly requested the money earlier, claiming they could influence public officials to obtain a favorable ruling in a criminal case.

More specifically, they allegedly promised to facilitate the release from criminal liability of a person convicted in the first instance. During searches, officers seized the transmitted sum as well as electronic devices allegedly used to arrange the prior agreement to commit the offense, representatives of the National Anticorruption Center of Moldova reported.

According to pulsemedia.md, the money was allegedly intended for a judge. Authorities have not officially confirmed this information.

The detainees will be placed in the pretrial detention facility of the National Anticorruption Center. Criminal investigations are ongoing to clarify all circumstances of the case.
