For the first time in history, the Republic of Moldova will host a high-level bilateral summit with the European Union. President Maia Sandu will preside over the event, which will take place on July 4, 2025, at the State Residence.
President of the European Council António Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen will represent the European Union at the summit. Joining President Sandu at the table will be Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean, underscoring the unified commitment of Moldova’s state institutions to achieving the national goal of EU accession.
“The organization of this event in Chisinau marks a new stage in our European journey,” the Presidency stated in a press release. “The EU holds such bilateral meetings only with strategic partners or candidate countries like Ukraine and those in the Western Balkans. Hosting this summit not only validates the progress we’ve made but also reflects the EU’s strong political support for our European future.”
