Chisinau remains the primary refuge for displaced persons from Ukraine who receive temporary protection in Moldova, said Angela Cutasevici, the capital’s deputy mayor. According to data from the General Inspectorate for Migration, as of April 7, 2025, authorities registered 42,238 beneficiaries in Chisinau—over 58% of the national total of 71,813.
“This figure reflects the municipal authorities’ commitment to respond promptly and effectively to the needs of refugees. We continuously adapt our social and educational policies to meet the realities on the ground,” Cutasevici stated.
Most beneficiaries are adults aged 18 to 59—over 29,500 people—while official records also list 9,458 children. Local officials emphasize that this data plays a key role in shaping educational and social support programs.
