Another Moldovan-Romanian customs crossing point! “We are increasing connectivity in the EU”

With the resumption of rail traffic, Moldovan and Romanian authorities will implement coordinated checks at the Cantemir-Falciu border crossing point. The Cabinet of Ministers has launched negotiations to finalize a bilateral agreement that will formalize this cooperation.

The agreement aims to strengthen border security, reduce waiting times, and simplify control procedures. Officials expect the measure to accelerate the transit of goods and people, boost import and export volumes, and deepen economic cooperation between the two countries.

By reopening the Cantemir-Falciu crossing, Moldova will connect its southern railway network to the European Union and support the creation of solidarity corridors for Ukraine.

It will become the third Moldovan-Romanian border crossing point to operate under the coordinated control concept. Under this system, both countries’ border authorities carry out checks in a single location but in two stages. Moldovan authorities perform exit controls first, followed by Romanian entry checks—all in one place. This process streamlines border procedures and minimizes delays for passengers and freight.
