Athletes from 40 countries expected in Chisinau for the European Weightlifting Championship

Chisinau will host the European Weightlifting Championship for the Senior category for the first time. The event will take place from April 13 to 21 at Arena Chisinau and will bring together approximately 300 athletes from 40 countries, IPN reports.

The Minister of Education and Research, Dan Perciun, stated in a press conference that the event not only highlights the performance of elite athletes but also emphasizes the shared commitment to promoting this sport and its values across the European continent.

The competition is of great importance both for Moldovan sports and for the international image of the Republic of Moldova.

“This event will be an exceptional opportunity for our athletes to compete at home, in front of our audience, whom we eagerly await at this championship,” the minister said.

According to the president of the European Weightlifting Federation, who is also the president of the National Weightlifting Federation, Antonio Conflitti, Moldova will have 20 athletes competing.

He encouraged people to attend the championship and support the athletes, noting that they will have the chance to see some of the most talented international athletes in Chisinau.

The budget for organizing and hosting the championship is 14 million lei. The Ministry of Education and Research will contribute 6.5 million lei, with the remaining amount covered by the federation and sponsors.
