Russian authorities reported that the Federal Security Service detained a person in Moscow and presented the individual as an agent of the special services of the Republic of Moldova. The Russian news agency RIA published the information on Thursday, January 22.

According to the FSB, the person arrived in the Russian Federation in December 2025 and allegedly acted in the interests of Moldovas Security and Intelligence Service. Russian authorities claim they detained the individual at the preparation stage of an alleged mission that targeted the security of the Russian state.

The FSB stated that devices seized during the detention allegedly contained messages exchanged with an SIS employee. The Russian side says this correspondence confirms the accusations.

Authorities opened a criminal case under Article 275.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and applied a preventive detention measure.
