BREAKING NEWS! Andrei Spinu withdraws from the Government and PAS: “I am with a light heart”

Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu announced on Monday, November 11, 2024, that he is resigning from the government and leaving the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS). He shared the announcement on his official Facebook account, stating that he has recently faced an intense defamation campaign and daily attacks “without any evidence.”

Spinu reflects on his years of service: “My friends, in recent years, I took on complex responsibilities to help our country succeed. Now, I am certain that Moldova is on the right path. We are no longer held hostage by energy resources; infrastructure—roads, bridges, aqueducts—is being built at an unprecedented rate, and through the National European Village Program, our localities are receiving critical development funds. Despite an unfair smear campaign and baseless daily attacks, I have continued my work for the country’s benefit. I am at peace, knowing what I leave behind, and confident that no one can challenge the integrity of my actions.

Today, I am stepping down from the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Action and Solidarity Party. I hope this decision will shift public discussions back to Moldova’s future rather than personal attacks orchestrated by those who would harm our country.

Much work remains, but justice remains the top priority. While false narratives dominate public discourse, organized crime, corrupt individuals, and foreign interests can proceed with their agendas. This trend was evident in the recent elections. Thank you to all who stood by me in serving the people,” Spinu wrote.

Throughout his career, Spinu has held several state roles, including Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports (2015–2016), Secretary General of the Government (2019), Secretary General of the President’s Office (December 2020–August 2021), Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development (August 2021–February 2023), and Secretary General of the President’s Office again (February–July 2023). He resumed the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development role from July 2023 until his recent resignation in November 2024.

Notably, Maia Sandu had announced necessary government reshuffles following her win in the second round of the presidential elections, and Prime Minister Dorin Recean promised changes, with a plan expected within ten days. Currently, it is unclear whether Spinu’s resignation is connected to these impending reshuffles.
