BREAKING NEWS! Maestro Eugen Doga Has Passed Away

Eugen Doga, Moldova’s most celebrated composer, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, at the age of 88. Known worldwide for his iconic waltz ”My Sweet and Tender Beast”, Doga carried Moldova’s name with pride and brilliance across continents. His music enchanted generations and became a symbol of national identity and artistic excellence.

President Maia Sandu expressed her condolences in a heartfelt message:

“I learned with sadness about the passing of the great Eugen Doga. I grew up with the melodies of the film Maria Mirabela and shed tears listening to the music of ‘Lautarii’. We carry with us everywhere the famous waltz from ‘My Sweet and Tender Beast,’ and we recognize the Maestro’s compositions from the first notes. Moldova was more beautiful and richer, thanks to him. We say goodbye with sorrow but also with deep gratitude.”

President Sandu declared a national day of mourning on the day of Eugen Doga’s funeral to honor his extraordinary legacy.

Eugen Doga was born on March 1, 1937, in the village of Mocra in the Transnistria region. He studied at the ”Stefan Neaga” Music School and later at the Chisinau State Conservatory, where his remarkable talent flourished. Over the decades, his works have become cultural treasures — timeless pieces that resonate with emotion, elegance, and national pride.
