Marcel Dumbravan takes over as acting chief prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA) following Veronica Dragalin’s departure. The decision was made on Tuesday, March 4, by the plenary session of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (SCP).
Since October 2021, Dumbravan has served as interim deputy chief prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and head of the Northern Office.
He has worked at the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office since 2008 after serving as a prosecutor in Floresti. He holds a master’s degree in law, having studied at “Alecu Russo” State University in Balti, specializing in Criminal Sciences and Criminology. He also earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal law from the same university. Marcel Dumbravan is a member of the Association of Prosecutors for Order and Justice.

Veronica Dragalin resigned as head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office on February 19. In a video message on social media, she suggested that lawmakers’ decision to dissolve the institution she led sends a negative message to the diaspora. Dragalin also stated that the bill proposing the merger of the PA and PCCOCS is an attack on judicial independence and warned that corruption in the country would reach a new level. As a result, she will not complete her five-year term, which began in August 2022.
