Moldova is withdrawing from the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. Corneliu Durnescu, the director of the national broadcaster Moldova 1, and Daniela Crudu, the head of the Eurovision Moldova Delegation, announced the decision on January 22.
“The decision was not an easy one, but it has been made,” stated Moldova 1 director Corneliu Durnescu, as reported by moldova1.md.
“This year’s national selection revealed certain challenges, including a decline in public interest and the overall quality of performances and artistic acts,” Durnescu added.

He further explained, “We consulted music specialists, and most expressed serious reservations about Moldova’s participation this year. Their opinions aligned closely with the jury selected by TRM for this edition.”
Durnescu confirmed that Moldova’s Eurovision participation fee of €21,486 will be redirected to other projects. He also assured that Moldova will not face penalties for withdrawing from the competition this year.
After the live auditions on January 18, 12 artists and bands qualified for the Eurovision 2025 national final. This year would have marked Moldova’s 20th participation in the ESC.
