Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu announced his resignation on Friday, July 3, in a statement published on his Facebook page.

“Today I conclude my term as Prime Minister. I accepted the proposal to serve as Prime Minister with a great sense of responsibility and the firm conviction that I could help change things for the better. The moment I realized that I could no longer carry out my mandate in accordance with my principles and convictions, I chose to step down.

I would like to thank all my colleagues—ministers, their teams, and everyone who worked with professionalism and good faith. I will continue to serve my country from whatever position I may hold, regardless of where I live or what responsibilities I have, whether in the public or private sector. I believe that duty to one’s country is not tied to a position, but to the commitment we uphold,” Munteanu wrote.

The day before the announcement, several Telegram channels reported that Munteanu had held a meeting on Thursday, July 2, with President Maia Sandu and leaders of the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), during which he informed them of his intention to resign.

Alexandru Munteanu was appointed Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova on November 1, 2025, following the parliamentary elections in which PAS secured a parliamentary majority with 53 seats in the legislature.
