Children with Hearing and Vision Impairments Will Benefit from Assistive Equipment. UNICEF Allocated $180,000

Thanks to a $180,000 donation, several children with hearing and vision impairments in the Republic of Moldova will receive assistive equipment. UNICEF, with financial support from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), has purchased approximately 500 devices, which will be distributed to schools in the coming period.

“This acquisition represents an important step to achieving the Education 2030 Agenda, emphasizing that no one should be left behind. By integrating assistive technologies into our educational system, we ensure equal opportunities for children with special needs. This initiative aligns with our commitment to building an inclusive and sustainable educational system that prepares all children for future challenges,” said Dan Perciun, Minister of Education and Research.

It is the first donated batch and is part of a larger acquisition worth over $1.1 million to facilitate the integration of children with disabilities into the educational system. The batch includes advanced tools for children with hearing and vision impairments, such as Braille typewriters, video magnifiers, screen-reading software, and adapted keyboards.

“Access to assistive technology means more than inclusion—it means transformation. Today’s school reflects tomorrow’s society, and by equipping children with special needs with the necessary tools, we lay the foundation for a more inclusive, innovative, and equitable world,” said Maha Damaj, UNICEF Moldova Country Representative.

The purchase of assistive technology was based on a detailed analysis of the needs of specialized educational institutions, such as the Republican Center for Psychopedagogical Assistance, Psychopedagogical Assistance Services, Inclusive Education Resource Centers, and general schools.
