Total passenger traffic at Chisinau International Airport reached 6.08 million passengers in the 12 month period of 2025, compared with 4.1 million in 2024, BANI.MD reports. The airport fulfilled its annual plan at 106.8 percent, marking a year on year increase of 46.8 percent, or an additional 1,938,018 passengers.
In December 2025 alone, passenger traffic reached 469,385 travelers. Compared with December 2024, this figure represents an increase of 41.8 percent, or 138,444 additional passengers. During the same month, the airport recorded 3,664 aircraft movements, up 39.3 percent year on year.
Istanbul ranked as the most popular destination in December, accounting for 10.6 percent of total passenger traffic. The city remains the main connection hub for Moldovan passengers, offering both direct flights and onward connections to Asia and the Middle East.
Sharm el Sheikh ranked second with a 9.3 percent share, reflecting strong demand for leisure travel during the winter season and the continued popularity of Egyptian destinations among Moldovan travelers. London followed with 5.9 percent, maintaining its role as a key destination for the Moldovan diaspora and labor mobility.
Milan ranked fourth with 4.7 percent, followed by Tel Aviv with 4.6 percent, as both routes recorded steady passenger flows throughout the year. Bucharest accounted for 4.2 percent of total traffic, confirming the Chisinau Bucharest route as one of the most stable and frequently used air connections in the region.
Other destinations with notable shares included Paris, Vienna, Rome, Warsaw, and Frankfurt, each accounting for between 2.8 and 3.7 percent of total traffic. The Other category represented 6.4 percent, reflecting the diversification of the flight network and growing interest in new or niche destinations, according to BANI.MD.
