Chisinau remains the primary host city for refugees from Ukraine, sheltering over 59% of all individuals under temporary protection in the Republic of Moldova, according to official data from the General Inspectorate for Migration covering the period March 1, 2023 – June 2, 2025.
As of early June, the capital houses 44,209 beneficiaries of temporary protection out of a national total of 74,417. Most of these refugees have settled in the suburbs (15,241 people), followed by the Botanica district (9,398), Center (5,971), Riscani (5,746), Buiucani (4,597), and Ciocana (3,256).
Adults aged 18 to 59 represent the largest demographic group among the refugees in Chisinau, totaling more than 31,000 individuals. The refugee population includes more than 7,400 children and adolescents and over 3,200 seniors aged 60 and above.

Since May 19, 2025, Chisinau has recorded an increase of 557 people within the temporary protection system.
“Chisinau is not just a host city. It is a symbol of regional solidarity, an example of coordinated and effective humanitarian response,” said Deputy Mayor Angela Cutasevici.
