Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban is hospitalized at a medical institution in the capital and remains under doctors’ supervision, according to a Facebook post published by the mayor.

Ceban provided the details following reports about his health and the time he spent abroad. He said that after returning to Moldova, he was admitted to a municipal hospital and was later transferred to another medical institution at his doctors’ recommendation.

“Dear citizens and members of the media, I am in hospital under medical supervision, and everything is fine. From the first day after I returned, I was admitted to a municipal hospital, and yesterday I was transferred to another hospital at the advice and recommendation of my doctors,” Ceban wrote.

The mayor also addressed reports about his vacation abroad, saying that he had planned the trip with his family well in advance and that they stayed in a rented apartment rather than a hotel.

“We did not stay at any hotel. We generally chose to rent an apartment because it is much cheaper, including because we can prepare meals at home,” Ceban said.

He denied reports that he had attended a party or experienced the health problems described in some public reports.

“I did not attend any party and did not experience any of the conditions that are being deliberately attributed to me,” Ceban said, accusing some reports of manipulating information about the location and circumstances of the incident.

Despite his hospitalization, Ceban said he continues to work remotely and remains in constant contact with municipal officials. He said he participates in meetings, reviews reports and remains fully involved in the city’s administration.

“Nothing in the work process has stopped during this entire period. I am constantly in contact with my colleagues, in meetings, and I continue to read all the reports and remain fully involved in the city’s work,” he said.

Ceban thanked people for their concern and messages, adding that he would continue working remotely.

On Saturday, August 15, Ceban announced that he would undergo surgery on his legs after suffering an incident while on vacation with his family.
