Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban says the city’s new General Urban Plan (PUG) is actively being developed, rejecting claims that the project has stalled.

“When you are told that the General Urban Plan is not being developed, you should know that this is not true. The General Urban Plan is in full preparation, and its purpose is to define the municipality’s development vision for many years ahead across all sectors,” Ceban said.

According to the mayor, the process was delayed because, for several years, no bidders participated in the public tenders launched by City Hall. He said experts from the Chisinau Municipality are now working alongside specialists from Romania to prepare the document.

Ceban announced that, beginning in July, public consultations will be held with architects, urban planners, territorial planning experts, infrastructure and mobility specialists, environmental and heritage experts, representatives of academia, civil society, the business community, public authorities, and interested residents.

“I invite you not to comment from television studios. First, come and see what is actually happening, then express your views publicly. Do not spread falsehoods or misinformation without knowing the facts,” the mayor said.

He added that 12 sectoral background studies have already been completed. These studies will form the basis for the municipality’s territorial development strategy and the updated General Urban Plan.

The schedule for the public consultations is expected to be published soon on the project’s dedicated online platform.
