The Chisinau municipal budget for 2026 has been approved with the support of 27 municipal councillors. The PAS faction abstained from the vote, citing a lack of transparency in presenting the project’s details and previously submitted proposals.
The Socialist Party (PSRM) voted in favor after Mayor Ion Ceban accepted the socialists’ proposals. The final vote was followed by applause from councillors.
According to the approved document, Chisinau’s municipal budget revenues are estimated at 9.6 billion lei, including approximately 4.9 billion lei in transfers from the state budget. Planned expenditures amount to 10.8 billion lei, resulting in an estimated budget deficit of 1.2 billion lei.
The municipal authorities had been operating under a provisional budget due to disagreements among factions within the Chisinau Municipal Council.
The previous municipal budget was also approved with a significant delay, in July 2024, following prolonged disputes among local councillors.
