According to an official statement, Energocom signed a three-year gas purchase agreement with OMV Petrom, one of the leading energy companies in the region. Under this contract, Energocom will buy natural gas from the strategic Neptun Deep project.
“This is the largest natural gas project in the Black Sea and Romania’s first deepwater offshore project. Neptun Deep holds estimated reserves of around 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which will help position Romania as the EU’s top gas producer,” company officials stated.
OMV Petrom will deliver the gas to the Virtual Trading Point (VTP) in Romania, ensuring a steady flow of natural gas to the Republic of Moldova.

“After Russia reduced gas deliveries to Moldova in 2021, Energocom proved its ability to import liquefied natural gas even from overseas. Now, it secures supplies from the Black Sea’s largest offshore project, which will begin production soon. Through this long-term contract, we will help diversify supply sources and strengthen Moldova’s energy security,” said Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu.
In 2024, Energocom covered 83.72% of Moldova’s total gas consumption.
