Mayor General Ion Ceban stated that the municipality of Chisinau’s budget for the current year is half a billion lei higher than in 2025. He said the municipality will direct the additional funds toward infrastructure projects, services, and programs for residents.
Ceban rejected claims that City Hall lacks sufficient resources for development and announced that the municipality plans to implement more projects this year than last year.
According to the presented figures, the municipal budget предусматриes revenues of 8.7 billion lei and expenditures of 9.2 billion lei. Authorities will allocate 6.1 billion lei, or about 66 percent of total spending, to the social sector.
The mayor said that more than 100 social programs operate in Chisinau and support around 380,000 beneficiaries. These include free public transport, home care services, and programs for children with autism and adults seeking professional retraining.
The municipality will allocate over 3.1 billion lei, or about 34 percent of expenditures, to economic and infrastructure sectors. Authorities plan to use these funds for public services, road repairs, transport infrastructure, and the renovation of residential courtyards.
Since the beginning of the year, several meetings of the Chisinau Municipal Council have failed due to the absence or withdrawal of councilors from PAS and PSRM. In 2025, council members also failed to approve the municipal budget, and the city operated under a provisional budget.
