During her working visit to Riga, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov held a series of meetings at the Latvian Parliament to discuss Moldova’s progress on its path toward European Union membership and its ongoing reform agenda aimed at modernizing the country and improving citizens’ quality of life.
Gherasimov met with Zanda Kalnina-Lukasevica, Deputy Speaker of the Latvian Parliament and co-rapporteur on Moldova at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Inara Murniece, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and Edmunds Cepuritis, Chair of the European Affairs Committee.
“I spoke with Latvian deputies about the efforts we are making in Chisinau to stay firmly on the European path and to implement the reforms that will lead to a better life for our citizens,” Gherasimov said.
She emphasized the crucial role national parliaments play in the EU accession process.

“National parliaments are essential not only because they give the final ratification vote but also because they provide consistent political support throughout the negotiations. In candidate countries like Moldova, parliaments are central to the transposition of European legislation. It is why maintaining strong parliamentary dialogue—both domestically and with the legislatures of EU member states—is vital for advancing our European integration,” she added.
In addition to her parliamentary meetings, Gherasimov also held discussions with Latvia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, and Artjoms Ursulskis, Latvia’s representative to the EU Council’s General Affairs Council. Talks focused on Latvia’s continued support for Moldova’s EU path, the reform agenda, and strengthening bilateral cooperation in the context of European integration.
