No mayor in Moldova has spoken out against European integration or the development and modernization of their communities. Government spokesman Daniel Voda shared this conclusion after Prime Minister Dorin Recean held meetings with hundreds of mayors from across the country.
“Since taking office, the Prime Minister has shown strong dedication to the citizens by visiting settlements in all districts of Moldova weekly. From February 2023, when he took on the role, he has visited 254 settlements. He has conveyed the same message to ministers, encouraging them to make weekly visits to cities and villages to understand local challenges and needs better,” said Voda after a cabinet meeting.
Voda emphasized that these visits have fostered direct dialogue with local leaders and promoted the government’s action plan, with a focus on Moldova’s European integration. At each meeting, officials highlight the benefits of EU accession and counter misinformation in the public sphere.

“It’s essential for citizens and local authorities to be well-informed about the economic and social advantages of European integration. Beyond open dialogue, we listen carefully to the problems and challenges of local communities, consult on policies, and find concrete solutions. The government implements programs like the European Village and other initiatives to deliver real benefits to local communities,” Voda explained.
He added, “Every mayor, regardless of political affiliation, supports European integration, acknowledging that the prosperity of their settlements depends on Moldova’s EU integration. Prime Minister Recean confirmed this during his visits. No mayor, regardless of political views, has opposed European integration. All support the development and modernization of their communities through this process.”
On 17 October, several cabinet members will make additional visits: Deputy PM Oleg Serebrian will visit the Ocnita district and the villages of Clocusna and Hadarauti; Interior Minister Adrian Efros will travel to Cahul; Deputy PM Dumitru Alaiba will head to Soroca; and Health Minister Ala Nemerenco will inaugurate an emergency medical assistance point in Otaci and visit the newly renovated Public Health Centre in Donduseni.
