Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov, responsible for European Integration, and Marta Kos, the new EU Commissioner for Enlargement, discussed Moldova’s progress on European integration during a meeting in Brussels on December 3.
During her working visit to Brussels from December 2-6, Gherasimov held her first meeting with Kos, the new EU Commissioner for Enlargement. Gherasimov emphasized their discussions on Moldova’s progress over the past year, the upcoming priorities in the negotiation process, and opportunities for gradual EU integration.
“We talked about the progress made in the past year regarding the European agenda, future priorities in the negotiation process, and new opportunities for gradual integration into the European Union in the coming years,” Gherasimov stated.

Gherasimov expressed gratitude for the European Commission’s unwavering support for Moldova’s modernization efforts and highlighted the strong, friendly relations with Slovenia. Slovenia has been a valuable partner to Moldova.
She also reiterated Moldova’s significant progress in its European journey this year. She reaffirmed the country’s firm commitment to joining the EU and enhancing the quality of life for its citizens. The Association Committee reviewed Moldova’s key reforms, challenges in the transformation process, the state of preparation for accession negotiations, and the findings of the European Commission’s 2024 Enlargement Report. Discussions also covered Moldova’s cooperation with the EU in the economy, energy, health, education, and agriculture.
Bilateral screenings were held in Brussels on Chapter 2, “Free Movement of Workers,” and Chapter 3, “Right to Set Up Businesses and Freedom to Provide Services.”
