Deputy Prime Minister Serebrian Engages the NB8 Ambassadors on Transnistrian Conflict and Reintegration Efforts

On May 12, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian met with the ambassadors of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) countries—Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden—who are on a fact-finding visit to the Republic of Moldova.

They discussed the current state of the Transnistrian settlement negotiations, key issues affecting both sides of the Dniester River, Chisinau’s reintegration policy priorities, and the measures taken to address existing problems, according to a press release issued by the government.

The talks also prioritized the alarming human rights situation in the Transnistrian region. Officials emphasized the urgent need for the immediate and unconditional release of individuals illegally detained by the Transnistrian authorities, highlighting the serious violations of their fundamental rights.

They also addressed obstacles to the free movement of citizens, called for an end to illegal fees imposed on farmers in the Dubasari district, and stressed the importance of ensuring proper conditions for Romanian-language schools.

Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian highlighted the national authorities’ efforts to promote a peaceful and lasting reintegration process and stressed the importance of continued support from international partners.

The NB8 officials support Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial unity by urging continued dialogue as the path to a peaceful conflict resolution.
