The water level in the Dniester River at the Cosauti intake station has reached 2.50 metres. The announcement was made by Balti Mayor Alexandr Petkov, who said the crisis situation was gradually improving.

According to the mayor, the Cosauti intake station supplies water to the municipality of Balti. Although the water level has risen, the authorities will continue rehabilitating the damaged artesian wells to establish a reliable backup water source.

Alexandr Petkov said these measures are necessary to ensure that Balti is better prepared for similar situations in the future.

The situation on the Dniester is beginning to improve. Environment Minister Gheorghe Hajder said that on Monday, October 19, water releases from the Novodnistrovsk reservoir increased from an average of 30 cubic metres per second to 40 cubic metres per second, while on October 20, the flow reached 55 cubic metres per second. The increase was made possible by rainfall in recent days.
