Dorin Junghietu said that his monthly salary of around 50,000 lei does not reflect the level of responsibility he holds as Minister of Energy. He made the statement during the ZdCe podcast, noting that he has adjusted his expenses to current economic realities.

The minister explained that the cost of living in Moldova remains lower than in cities such as Madrid or The Hague. However, he stressed that, while the salary may be acceptable in the context of the country’s economic situation, it does not correspond to the demands and responsibilities of his role.

“I have adjusted my expenses according to the new realities. Overall, the monthly expenses or cost of living in Moldova, compared to Madrid or The Hague, are lower. Based on the country’s financial and economic realities, it is sufficient. But considering the level of responsibility a minister has—especially in the energy sector—I do not think it is enough,” Junghietu said.

He also pointed out that he manages projects worth billions of dollars, arguing that such responsibilities should be matched by higher compensation.
