Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs delivered a strong message to Moldova: “The European train is coming. You’re at the station. Catch that train!” In an exclusive interview with journalist Ecaterina Covali for the “Bridges to Europe” project, aired on RLIVE TV on Friday, November 1, at 18:00, Rinkēvičs urged the people of Moldova to seize this opportunity for EU integration.
“Look, the European train is approaching. You’re in the station. Catch that train; you never know if another will come. And even if it does, you won’t know when “Rinkēvičs said. “There are two trains, one heading to Europe and another going east. I hope—and I am convinced—that the European train is the right choice for you.”
A steadfast advocate of Moldova’s European path, Rinkēvičs supports reforms and assistance for Chisinau across multiple sectors. He highlighted Latvia’s role in judicial and public administration reform, agriculture, and border security. “In 2016 and 2017, there was little hope for Moldova’s EU candidate status, yet Moldova’s people chose a European direction,” he remarked. “In the last two years, the progress has been remarkable. Moldova has gained EU candidate status and is now beginning membership negotiations. Now, it’s time for practical work and targeted action to make the accession process effective.”
