Officials from the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of the Republic of Moldova met with representatives of META and Google to discuss the integrity of electoral processes. They addressed issues including online disinformation and illegal party financing.
Moldovan officials focused on securing a safe digital space and combating disinformation. They also emphasized the need for transparency in online political advertising. They added that they discussed promoting media literacy and critical thinking among voters.

“At the same time, we explored practices and strategies to identify and counter potentially illegal or inauthentic content and disinformation campaigns that could influence public perception of democratic processes. For the CEC, as the body responsible for overseeing political financing, it is essential to collaborate with companies that operate online communication platforms,” the Commission said in its press release.
The Commission also reiterated “the importance of ensuring greater transparency in online political advertising, including identifying sources of funding and the responsible entities.”
