The Eiffel Tower could be illuminated in the colors of the Republic of Moldova’s national flag to mark the country’s 35th Independence Day, according to VIP Magazin.
Moldova’s Ambassador to France, Lorina Balteanu, has appealed to business leaders, entrepreneurs, and supporters of the country to help finance the symbolic initiative.
The event, titled “MOLDOVA-35 IN PARIS,” will be organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in France on August 27 at the Champ de Mars, near the Eiffel Tower.
French officials, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of European and international institutions, the Moldovan community in France, and visitors from the Republic of Moldova are expected to attend.
The event area will cover approximately 4,000 square meters and will feature 35 traditional Moldovan carpets, symbolizing the country’s 35 years of independence while showcasing its cultural heritage.
The highlight of the evening is expected to be the illumination of the Eiffel Tower in the blue, yellow, and red colors of Moldova’s national flag.
According to Ambassador Balteanu, Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already covered the costs of organizing the event, including infrastructure, security, and logistics. However, the estimated €50,000 required to illuminate the Eiffel Tower has not yet been fully secured.
The City of Paris has expressed its willingness to finance half of the amount, leaving €25,000 still to be raised.
“That is why I am appealing to business leaders, entrepreneurs, and all friends of the Republic of Moldova who share the belief that a country’s image is built through bold projects and the commitment of those who believe in its future,” Balteanu said.
The ambassador announced that she would personally contribute €3,000 and encouraged others to support the initiative. She emphasized that all funds collected would be used exclusively to finance the illumination of the Eiffel Tower and would be managed with full transparency.
If completed, the project would mark the first time the Eiffel Tower is illuminated in the colors of the Moldovan flag.
The event is also expected to be synchronized through a live video connection with the official Independence Day celebrations taking place in Chisinau’s Great National Assembly Square, marking 35 years since the Republic of Moldova declared its independence.
