Support for Reforms and Development
Speaking about the accession process, Macron acknowledged its demanding nature but applauded Moldova’s “consistent efforts.” He highlighted the €1.9 billion European financial support plan approved for Moldova for the next two years, noting it will strengthen reforms and development.
France, he said, will continue providing technical and financial assistance, including through the French Development Agency, which has already allocated over €250 million for priority projects.
Education, Culture, and Heritage
Macron placed special focus on education and cultural cooperation. He announced:
- The launch of the digital platform of the Arte European channel in Moldova,
- The recognition of the French baccalaureate in Moldova,
- and a new dual-degree program between Sorbonne University and Moldova State University, designed to train jurists of international caliber.
He also spoke about ongoing cultural heritage restoration projects, including the renovation of the Herta Villa and Kligman Villa in Chisinau:
“These initiatives will anchor Moldova even more deeply in European history.”
Regional Context
Turning to regional security, Macron strongly condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and rejected Kremlin propaganda:
“The European Union does not threaten anyone; it respects the sovereignty of states, and it is built on peace and prosperity. It is by no means the Soviet Union.”
Closing Message
Concluding his remarks, Macron reiterated France’s firm support for Moldova’s European aspirations:
“Our message is one of solidarity and confidence in our common future in Europe. Moldova has the courage and determination to choose its destiny, and we will stand by its side.”
