Maia Sandu said that the European Union offer to provide €60 million to support energy supplies for the Transnistria region remains valid, noting that the reintegration process is stalled due to the illegal presence of Russian troops in the region.
Speaking during the TV program “Cabinetul din Umbră” on Jurnal TV, the president stated that the EU funds are still available as an emergency solution to address potential energy crises.
“We still have this emergency solution — the EU funds — to resolve crisis situations. For now, this assistance is being refused. It is the decision of the regime in Tiraspol, or rather the decision of Moscow. This means that from time to time people there will feel the impact of energy problems,” Sandu said.
The president also addressed the broader issue of the country’s reintegration, explaining that the authorities in Chisinau are working on several measures aimed at bringing the two sides closer, including the harmonization of taxation policies.
According to Sandu, the revenues collected would be directed toward the development of localities on the left bank of the Nistru River.
She added that the Moldovan authorities intend to renovate roads, schools and social institutions in the region. However, the implementation of these plans remains limited due to the illegal presence of Russian troops in Transnistria, which continues to complicate the reintegration process.
