Ukraine will supply coal to the Cuciurgan Power Plant, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova in Kyiv reported after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Bani.md writes.

Officials analyzed the energy infrastructure situation in both countries, which Russian attacks severely damaged. The bombardments caused outages and damaged equipment, affecting several cities in the Republic of Moldova.

The parties agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector and coordinate responses to Russian threats. They discussed expanding cooperation between electricity transmission operators Ukrenergo and Moldelectrica, prioritizing grid synchronization, increasing balancing capacities, and signing agreements on cross-border electricity flows and emergency support.

They also addressed joint infrastructure projects, including the 330 kV Balti – Dniester Hydropower Plant overhead power line, considered strategic for regional energy security.

In natural gas, they examined expanding cooperation through the Vertical Gas Corridor project and using Ukraine’s underground gas storage capacities to improve regional energy security.

The Ukrainian side thanked Moldova for providing humanitarian support, including generators, transformers, and other equipment to repair infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks.

Since the beginning of 2025, Chisinau stopped purchasing electricity from MGRES, which now supplies power only to the Transnistrian region.
