Esther Ruiz de Azua has been appointed head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) mission in Moldova. She met with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Serhiy Mihov, to present her credentials.
Esther Ruiz de Azua officially took office in July. According to an IOM press release, she has managed various operations in Africa, Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East for 20 years.
In addition, Ruiz de Azua worked as IOM’s Emergency and Post-Crisis Programs Coordinator in Ethiopia (2019-2024) and Ukraine (2014-2019).

The new head of IOM Moldova has held senior positions in NGOs operating in Lebanon, Georgia, and Niger.
Esther Ruiz de Azua is originally from Spain. She holds a bachelor’s degree in law from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and postgraduate diplomas in public law, international development, and international election observation.
