European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib has begun her first official visit to Moldova, meeting with President Maia Sandu in Chisinau.
According to the EU Delegation to Moldova, the discussions focused on progress in implementing reforms related to Moldova’s European path, including the rule of law, the protection of people with special needs and support for vulnerable groups.
Lahbib also welcomed Moldova’s cooperation through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, which the country has been part of since 2023.
“By participating this summer in the support mission to combat forest fires in Greece, Moldova is demonstrating that it not only benefits from European solidarity, but also contributes to Europe’s resilience,” the EU Delegation said.
During her first visit to Moldova, Lahbib is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Vasile Tofan and other members of the Government.
Her programme includes a visit to the La Strada organization and a refugee accommodation center, as well as a demonstration by the Moldova Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Team, which uses equipment provided with EU support.
Lahbib will conclude her visit with a press conference alongside Moldova’s Minister of Labour and Social Protection Natalia Plugaru and Interior Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin.
