Eugen Doga Pedestrian Street, located in the center of Chisinau, connects several of the city’s most important buildings and is just steps away from the Metropolitan Cathedral Park “Nasterea Domnului” and other emblematic landmarks.

In 2015, the Chisinau Municipal Council decided to rename the street — formerly known as Alexandru Diordita Street — in honor of the celebrated Moldovan composer Eugen Doga, whose music is internationally acclaimed.

Two years later, in 2017, a bronze sculpture of two lovers — a boy and a girl — was installed on the street to mark the city’s anniversary.

By 2021, the area had become a lively hub for local artisans, with more than 20 stands selling handicrafts and souvenirs.

In 2023, the street underwent another major upgrade: the central pavement was redesigned with giant piano keys, symbolizing Doga’s musical legacy while improving pedestrian comfort. New benches and street furniture were added to create inviting spaces for relaxation and socializing. A bronze bust in the shape of a treble clef, approved by the Maestro himself, was installed at the top of the street. The lighting system was also fully modernized.

Today, Eugen Doga Pedestrian Street stands as one of Chisinau’s most popular cultural and leisure destinations. It regularly hosts concerts, festivals, and themed fairs, drawing residents and tourists alike. Lined with cafés, restaurants, and boutique shops, the street has become a symbol of Chisinau’s creative spirit — a vibrant space where music, art, and community come together.
