In the wake of the Chisinau Municipal Council’s controversial decision to ban LGBTQ+ public demonstrations, activist and Bang Bang media founder Vasile Micleusanu reiterated in an exclusive interview for Moldovalive that Moldova Pride March 2025 will go ahead as planned. He strongly condemned the Council’s decision as unconstitutional and reaffirmed the organizers’ commitment to defending the right to peaceful assembly through all legal means.
In his remarks to Moldovalive, Micleusanu confirmed that organizers have already taken legal steps and will not back down:
“Yes, absolutely — we are fully committed to challenging this decision through every legal and democratic means available.
We, the members of the LGBTQ+ Platform of Moldova, have already submitted a formal complaint to the Equality Council. At the same time, we are confident that the State Chancellery — which holds the legal authority to approve or annul decisions issued by the Municipal Council — will cancel this discriminatory and unconstitutional act.”

Micleusanu also highlighted that organizers are preparing a criminal complaint against local authorities. He stressed that the legal battle is not just about protecting LGBTQ+ rights but about defending democratic values at large:
“We are also in discussion with legal experts and law enforcement representatives to file a formal complaint under Article 176 of the Criminal Code, which prohibits any form of discrimination by public officials. The law clearly states that inciting or supporting discriminatory behavior based on sexual orientation or gender identity is a criminal offense.
And let us be clear: the Pride March will take place. It is our constitutional right to peaceful assembly, and as long as democracy is still functioning in Moldova, we will not be intimidated. We will march not only to defend our rights but to affirm that no one — not even a politically motivated City Hall — can silence the voices of an entire community seeking dignity, equality, and justice.”
Background
The Chisinau Municipal Council recently passed a resolution barring LGBTQ+ public gatherings in the capital, including the annual Pride March scheduled for June 15. The decision sparked outrage from civil society and human rights advocates, who see it as a direct attack on democratic values and freedom of expression. The decision to ban Moldova Pride 2025 came under the pretext of “protecting public morality”—a justification that activists denounce as legally baseless and discriminatory.
Despite the restrictions, Moldova Pride organizers remain resolute. They confirmed that the march will proceed on the traditional route through central Chisinau on June 15 and have called for solidarity from civil society and allies of the LGBTQ+ community.
