Expensive gas on the stock exchange is sabotaging Parlicov’s plan to cut tariffs on January 1

Rising gas prices on the stock exchange are “threatening” the Energy Ministry’s plans for a possible tariff cheapening from January 1, 2025. Despite fundamental factors indicating a decline in prices, panic over anticipated changes in January has driven prices upward, bani.md reports.

“Even if fundamentals suggest that prices should fall, the panic related to January 1 is pushing prices up and affecting forecasts, including those with which ANRE operates,” said Energy Minister Victor Parlicov, emphasizing that the situation is not only a domestic problem but also a regional trend, with visible effects on the Romanian market as well.

According to information available at the time of publication, the gas price on the TTF hub reaches 501.5 dollars per thousand cubic meters, compared to 480 dollars, the purchase price set by ANRE for Moldovagaz.

Consumers pay 13.126 lei per cubic meter of gas, a tariff last adjusted in May 2024.
