Filming has begun this autumn on the fiction feature film “The Winemaker’s Daughter.” The production is being made by Realitatea Film in co-production with Poland and will be shot in both Moldova and Poland. The project has received funding from Moldova’s National Cinematography Center.
“The Winemaker’s Daughter” is directed by Polish filmmaker Michał Szcześniak, from a screenplay by Mihai Mănescu. The film’s cinematography is by Igor Vlas.
The international cast includes Ana Dumitrașcu, Valeriu Andriuță, Rafał Maćkowiak, Marta Ojrzyńska, Constantin Ipati, Igor Chistol, Andrei Porubin, Angela Ciobanu, Victoria Raileanu, Silviu Boinceanu, Diana Decuseara and Mihai Zubcu.
The film tells the story of Catinca, a woman who has built a professional life in Western Europe and returns to Moldova after the unexpected death of her father. Her return puts her in a difficult situation: her family’s vineyard is threatened by a corrupt scheme involving foreign interests and local complicity.
Catinca must choose between the comfortable life she has built abroad and fighting for her family’s inheritance, as well as for the community she comes from.
The film aims to reach a broad audience and portray contemporary Moldova through the story of a winemaking family. Rural life, wine-making traditions, the connection between family and land, and the distinctive atmosphere of autumn in Moldova’s vineyards will form part of the film’s visual world.
The Moldovan-Polish co-production brings together filmmakers and actors from both countries and tells a story about family, roots, identity and the choice to return home.
