Vadim Krasnoselski, the unrecognized president of the administration in Tiraspol, met with Iwona Piórko, Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova, during her first visit to the region since taking office. Local media sources reported that the discussions took place in the negotiation room of the Transnistrian administration and focused primarily on work matters. Representatives from the European delegation, including deputies and advisors on political and commercial issues, attended the meeting, while Tiraspolās leadership sent officials from the executive, diplomatic, internal affairs, and healthcare sectors. Krasnoselski explained that he included these officials because the topics required detailed discussion.
Krasnoselski stressed that the negotiation process must continue “under any circumstances.” He stated that the “5+2” format has stalled since 2019, after the “Moldovan negotiator refused to sign the final protocol” in Bratislava, and said the situation worsened “due to the pandemic and military actions in Ukraine.” He argued that the lack of plenary dialogue directly affects the economic and energy situation and causes crises in the region. Krasnoselski also emphasized that the region’s economy relies on the European market.
“We need to work openly, honestly, and transparently. And, of course, Moldova should not create obstacles,” he said, accusing Chisinau of “ignoring the position of the European Union and the DCFTA agreement” and obstructing normal export-import operations for the Transnistrian business community.
Iwona Piórko said her visit represents “the first of many” and expressed hope for “good working relations.” She added, “I believe in the diplomacy of actions and even in the diplomacy of words, but I do not believe in the diplomacy of slogans,” highlighting the EUās role as an observer in the settlement process and stressing the need to maintain a “peaceful dialogue.”
Piórko also said, “It is very pleasant to hear that you are committed to promoting peace and stability. On our part, we insist on the constructive participation of Chisinau in existing forums. We advocate for constructiveness to avoid unnecessary complications. Peace and stability are essential values.” She explained that she wants to understand Tiraspol’s vision regarding settlement prospects, the economic situation, EU financial support, and the protection of human rights and freedoms in the region.
As of this news publication, the Bureau for Reintegration Policy and the European Union Delegation in Chisinau have not issued press statements.
