Expressing gratitude for the decisive measures taken by the United States, President Maia Sandu remarked, “I commend the United States for its decisive actions against those who undermine the integrity of our elections by illicitly purchasing votes on behalf of the Kremlin. Together, we stand strong against threats to our democratic values.”
Prime Minister Dorin Recean also welcomed the decision, stating, “I appreciate the U.S. Government’s move to sanction individuals responsible for actions that compromise Moldova’s security and facilitate Kremlin interference in our elections. This support from our partners aligns with our ongoing efforts to combat fraud and safeguard democracy.”
The sanctions against Marina Tauber were announced by the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, citing her involvement in facilitating attempts by fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor to undermine electoral processes in Moldova, serving Kremlin interests through vote buying.

“Given what is happening in this country now, I am truly sorry that the sanctions against me have been imposed only now. It means we are on the right track!” she wrote on Facebook.
