The National Integrity Authority (ANI) has ordered the initiation of an asset and personal interest verification regarding Vasile Popa, former director within the State Protection and Guard Service (SPPS), following a complaint registered on November 14, 2025.
According to the document published by the ANI, the complaint concerns a possible violation of the legal regime governing the declaration of assets and personal interests. It refers to the existence of significant real estate acquisitions made by Vasile Popa during the 2020–2024 fiscal years, as reflected in his asset declarations. These circumstances have raised suspicions regarding the origin of the financial resources used to carry out the transactions.
During the preliminary checks, the ANI analyzed Vasile Popa’s asset and personal interest declarations for the years 2020–2024, comparing them with data obtained from state registers and public databases. At the same time, the ANI requested additional information and documents from Popa, which were submitted at the beginning of December 2025.
The integrity inspector established that, throughout the period under review, Vasile Popa and members of his family acquired several real estate properties, a fact that requires a detailed analysis of the consistency between the declared income and the changes in assets.
The verification will cover both the assets and personal interests of the former SPPS director and, where applicable, the property of his family members.
In mid-November, President Maia Sandu signed the resignation requests of the head of the State Protection and Guard Service (SPPS), Vasile Popa, as well as one of his deputies, Vitalie Lupascu.
