Former Hancesti district deputy chairman Dumitru Vartic, who is facing criminal charges for document forgery in a case involving a fine issued posthumously in his wife’s name, says he did not give money to the police officer or attempt to influence him in any way.
“I presented a photo of my wife’s identity card from my phone, which she had sent me some time earlier. Under no circumstances did I physically have the documents with me,” Vartic said in a video published by Unimedia.
Asked by journalists whether the police officer accepted the document and whether Vartic offered any payment in return, he categorically denied giving the officer money.
“Absolutely not. I only asked him whether he could issue the fine and penalty points in someone else’s name. I had another ticket, and I wanted to preserve my penalty points, considering that my wife was not driving the car at that time,” Vartic said.
The former official’s lawyer, Roman Mihaes, also said that Vartic did not exert any influence over the investigating officer.
“He presented the documents, the officer processed them, and he paid the fine. That’s all. There was no corruption and no influence. In this case, Mr. Dumitru admitted his guilt, and we want to proceed under a simplified procedure,” Mihaes said.
Dumitru Vartic is facing criminal proceedings for document forgery in connection with a fine issued in the name of his late wife, Ludmila Vartic.
According to the prosecutor handling the case, Vartic is not being investigated for bribery or influence peddling.
