Two former local leaders of organizations linked to Ilan Shor in Rezina District and Ungheni District have been convicted for illegal financing of political parties. The Chisinau Court issued the sentence on April 24.
Prosecutors charged the defendants with complicity in knowingly accepting party funding from an organized criminal group.
The court sentenced the former head of the Ungheni territorial office to four years in prison, suspended, with a probation period of three years. Authorities also ordered the confiscation of 3.2 million lei.
The court sentenced the former head of the Rezina territorial office to four years in prison, with two years to be served in a semi-closed penitentiary and two years suspended, along with a probation period of two years. Authorities have placed this individual on a wanted list and ordered the confiscation of 1.9 million lei from his accounts.
The court also banned both defendants from holding positions or carrying out administrative and financial management roles within political parties for five years. Authorities have seized their assets as part of the ruling.
