Former MP Fiodor Gagauz has announced that he will run for the position of Governor (Bashkan) of Gagauzia. He said he made the decision after consulting with residents of the autonomous region and declared himself ready to take on the responsibilities of the office.

Speaking at a press conference hosted by IPN, Gagauz said the upcoming elections for the Bashkan and the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia will play a key role in shaping the region’s future and should mark a moment of renewal and responsible choice.

“Today is not the time to stand aside. I am convinced that everyone capable of contributing to the well-being of their people must assume responsibility. That is why, after careful reflection and consultations with the region’s residents, I have decided to run for the office of Governor of Gagauzia,” the politician said.

According to Gagauz, the region needs leaders who not only speak about problems but are also capable of proposing solutions, defending the autonomy’s interests, safeguarding its legal powers, and building constructive relations with the central authorities.

“This is a conscious decision and a great responsibility that I am ready to assume. I am doing this not for the sake of political competition, but because I believe that today, more than ever, Gagauzia needs stability, unity, and development,” he added.

In his view, Gagauzia has in recent years been marked by political confrontation between the central authorities and the region’s leadership, which he claims has resulted in the restriction of the autonomy’s powers and its political isolation. He argued that the region now needs a new stage of development.
