From August 1st, the USA will impose a customs duty of 25% on Moldovan products

Starting August 1, 2025, the United States will apply a 25% customs duty—reduced from the previously expected 31%—on products imported from the Republic of Moldova. Minister of Economic Development and Digitization Doina Nistor announced the adjustment and explained that the Moldovan government engaged in consultations with local exporters and held diplomatic discussions with the U.S. authorities and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to mitigate the tax’s impact on the national economy.

In 2024, the United States ranked 14th among Moldova’s trade partners, accounting for 2.5% of total trade. However, Moldovan exports to the American market have recently declined by 40%, according to official data.

Authorities in Chisinau pledged to continue dialogue with the U.S. partners and local businesses to preserve the competitiveness of Moldovan goods. The government is also actively exploring alternative export markets, particularly within the European Union, where three out of four Moldovan products are already being sold.
