From the detention center, Gutul expresses allegiance to Russia. She calls for Putin’s intervention in the situation she faces as a result of Shor’s actions

From the detention center of the National Anticorruption Center (NAC), the Governor of Gagauzia, Evghenia Gutul, addressed Russian President Vladimir Putin. Gutul directly urged Putin to intervene and suggested that he use “the full arsenal of diplomatic, political, and legal mechanisms to pressure the Moldovan authorities,” according to the document published on social media.

“In the name of the Gagauz people, who have never betrayed their historical friends, we appeal to you, dear Vladimir Vladimirovich: use the full arsenal of diplomatic, political, and legal mechanisms to pressure the Moldovan authorities to end political repression and ensure my swift release immediately. We ask you, as the leader of a power that has always stood for justice, to express firm and unequivocal support for the special status of Gagauz autonomy within the independent Republic of Moldova,” the statement reads.

According to the published message, Gutul’s lawyers transmitted the appeal.

Authorities detained Evghenia Gutul on the evening of March 25, 2025, at Chisinau International Airport. Shor’s allies organized protests in Comrat, demanding her release.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Internal Affairs announced that Gutul had planned to fly to Istanbul. Daniella Misail-Nichitin stated that authorities were considering the possibility that the Governor of Gagauzia intended not to return to the country. She explained that border police followed procedures, as Gutul was on a watchlist.
