Gherasimov: Chisinau prepare to open negotiations on the first cluster of chapters — Fundamental Values

Chisinau authorities prepare to open negotiations on the first cluster of chapters — Fundamental Values. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov announced this.

She stated that civil servant teams working in specialized groups had drafted negotiation positions in recent weeks. Last week, members of the Interinstitutional Council and the Cabinet of Ministers reviewed these drafts.

“To ensure a transparent and inclusive process, we invited civil society, business associations, academia, and political parties to discussions last week. The negotiation position is the key document outlining how and when Moldova plans to adopt and implement European norms and standards, which all EU member states follow,” Gherasimov said.

She also noted that Moldova develops a negotiation position for each policy chapter of the EU acquis.

“The Fundamental Values cluster is the first group of chapters we will open negotiations with and the last one we will close. Progress in these areas—including rule of law, justice, public administration reform, and democratic institutions—will determine the pace of Moldova’s EU accession negotiations,” Gherasimov emphasized.

On June 25, 2024, Moldova officially launched its EU accession negotiations during an intergovernmental conference in Luxembourg. Authorities are currently coordinating the bilateral screening stage, with actual negotiations set to begin this year. Chișinău aims to secure Moldova’s EU membership by 2030.
